66th JCSP PRCA Rodeo is Coming!
Cleburne, Texas – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Committee has plans for its 66th annual Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association Rodeo to be held at the Sheriff’s Posse facility June 9th – 12th, with performances starting each night at 7:30 P.M. Sponsored by Pinnacle Bank, JAG Metals, APOS Western Wear and our many other dedicated local business partners, this year’s production is anticipated to be very exciting.
We have contracted with Danny Regan and the United Pro Rodeo Company to produce this year’s rodeo. Danny has an excellent reputation for producing great rodeos and the professional cowboys on the circuit today enter his rodeos due to the quality of the stock. Danny will be bringing with him Rockin’ Robbie Hodges, one of the most sought-after professional barrel men in the industry. Robbie is known as one of the funniest men in the professional rodeo arena today. He knows what a rodeo crowd is looking for in a performance….entertainment!!!
West Huggins will return as the rodeo announcer. Many of you are familiar with West as he has been announcing our event for the past ten years. West is very familiar with our community and sponsor/partners. Casey Deardorf will be providing the sound and music. Casey is a home town boy who grew up in the community.
The Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo has been chosen as one of seven North Texas “Qualifier Rodeos” for the 2022 Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo to be held in January in the new Dickies arena in Fort Worth. This new system of qualifying contestants provides the unique opportunity for competitors who may not have familiar names to compete at a much larger venue.
This event is our main funding event for the year and is what enables us to continue to support area youth and benefit activities. In 2020 we were able to donate in excess of $45,000 (cash, scholarships and facility use) back to area youth groups and charity efforts. It is our goal to continue to provide our community and surrounding area with a quality, low cost, family-oriented event that residents can look forward to attending year after year.
To kick off Rodeo Week this year we have scheduled several special events on Saturday June 05 at the Posse Grounds that are open to the public with no admission fee:
- The kids Mutton Bustin’ preliminary competition, with the top 20 contestants being invited to compete for the Mutton Bustin’ Championship in the Friday and Saturday night rodeo performances. A stick horse rodeo will immediately follow the Saturday Mutton Bustin’ preliminary competition.
- At 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon the JCSP will once again host the County Team roping (competitors must reside in Johnson County and be 18 years old or older), The top eight teams will be invited to participate in the final go round to be held during each rodeo performance. For more information contact James Roller at 817-659-9245.
- The Texas Cornhole League will host a cornhole tournament in the blue barn. The Sheriff’s Posse will host an open 5D barrel race in the outdoor arena with action starting at 8:30 am. Food trucks and vendors have advised that they plan to be there to provide food and shopping.
Each year we try to bring something new to the rodeo. This year we will be adding the Girls Break Away Roping event. Girls Break Away is not new to rodeo but is new to the Pro Rodeo Circuit, and provides us with the opportunity to provide the ladies currently competing on the Women Professional Rodeo Circuit with another opportunity to grow this event as part of the pro rodeo’s standard events.
Two local teams will compete in the County Team Roping and Cowboy’s Sled Race each night so pic your favorites and come out and root for your teams!
We will recognize our military and first responders at the Wednesday evening performance and Thursday night’s Rodeo performance has once again been dedicated as “God and Country Night”, and thanks to Pastor Russ Weaver and the Shepherd’s Valley Cowboy Church in Alvarado.
For the past 66 years the members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse have brought one of the finest outdoor professional rodeos in the United States to the residents of Johnson and surrounding counties. Come on out to our facility just south of the Johnson County Courthouse on Highway 174 and enjoy an evening of great entertainment in a family oriented atmosphere. Our full service concession stand will be serving the legendary “Posse Burger”, so bring the family and come hungry!
