Cleburne, Texas – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse Rodeo Committee has finalized plans for its New Rebranded 65th annual Professional Rodeo Cowboy’s Association Rodeo to be held at the Sheriff’s Posse facility June 12th – 15th, with Rodeo performances starting each night at 8:00 P.M. Sponsored by our many dedicated local business partners, this year’s production is anticipated to be very exciting.
The Rocky Mountain Rodeo Company and Will Cook will return to Cleburne with their award-winning bucking stock and reputation for producing outstanding professional rodeos, and specialty entertainment. This year we will be bringing back the very popular youth bronc riding event for the Wednesday and Thursday evening performances and our local ladies will compete each night in the Girls Steer Scramble for cash prizes and community recognition. As in years past we will hold our kids mutton bustin’ finals during the Friday and Saturday evening performances and two of the top eight finalists from the county team roping will compete each night.
National Finals Rodeo Barrel Man Backflip Johnny Dudley will provide entertainment and laughs each night. Backflip has been recognized as the comedy act of the year and as the Coors Man In The Can, and will keep the crowd in stiches as he helps our bull fighters protect our cowboys.
This event is our main funding event for the year and is what enables us to continue to support area youth and benefit activities. In 2018 we were able to donate in excess of $30,000 (cash, scholarships and facility use) back to area youth groups and charity efforts. It is our goal to continue to provide our community and surrounding area with a quality, low cost, family-oriented event that residents can look forward to attending year after year.
To kick off Rodeo Week this year we have scheduled several special events on Saturday June 08 at the Posse Grounds that are open to the public with no admission fee:
The kids Mutton Bustin’ preliminary competition will start at 09:00 AM Saturday morning, with the top 20 contestants being invited to compete for the Mutton Bustin’ Championship in the Friday and Saturday night rodeo performances. A stick horse rodeo will immediately follow the Saturday Mutton Bustin’ preliminary competition.
At 1:00 PM Saturday afternoon the JCSP will once again host the County Team roping (competitors must reside in Johnson County and be 18 years old or older), The top eight teams will be invited to participate in the final go round to be held during each rodeo performance. For more information contact James Roller at 817-659-9245.
New this year is the Rodeo Car Show and Back Yard Grill Master Cook Off scheduled to start Saturday morning at 10:00 AM and run until 2:00 PM. The JCSP will also be hosting our first Decorate Downtown Contest. For more information on the decorating contest, car show and cook off contact Shana Peacock at (817) 648-1434.
We will recognize our military and first responders at the Wednesday evening performance and Thursday night’s Rodeo performance has once again been dedicated as “God and Country Night”, and thanks to Pastor Russ Weaver and the Shepherd’s Valley Cowboy Church in Alvarado for providing the special entertainment starting at 7:00 PM. Our Friday evening performance will be dedicated to Lupus Awareness, and everyone is encouraged to wear purple to show their support for finding a cure for this disease.
For the past 65 years the members of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse have brought one of the finest outdoor professional rodeos in the United States to the residents of Johnson and surrounding counties. Come on out to our facility just south of the Johnson County Courthouse on Highway 174 and enjoy an evening of great entertainment in a family oriented atmosphere. Our full service concession stand will be serving the legendary “Posse Burger”, so bring the family and come hungry!
