The State of Texas recognized the historical significance and impact of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse by awarding them Historical Marker number 16272, in 2010, outlining the impact in the community as well as their importance to North Texas and significance to the state. The marker is located in Johnson Country at 2046 S. Highway 171, Cleburne, Texas 76031. Further information can be found at the Texas Historical Commission web site.
The Cleburne Time’s-Review posted an article commemorating the awarding of the historical marker in April of 2013. An excerpt of the article, written by Tammye Nash, reads: “Wilma Reed, Johnson County Historical Commission member and chair for the Texas Historical Marker program, said in a written statement, ‘We commend the Johnson County Sheriff’s Posse for their efforts to preserve the archeological, historical and cultural resources of our county. The marker serves to bring public awareness to the more than 60 years of service by the many members of the Sheriff’s Posse.'”
